Investing in Our Customers & Communities

Fuel Service App

Filling up the car is one of the biggest challenges for disabled drivers. That is why Applegreen are delighted to partner with FuelService

Through FuelService, drivers can now contact Applegreen stations ahead of their arrival and see if they are able to assist them at the pump. Once they have arrived, it lets them inform the station and tells the staff member which fuel pump they are parked at.

FuelService is a fully managed cloud based solution that works with the existing telephone in the station for communication. When a driver makes a request, the phone rings and the station staff press 1 if they can help, or 2 if they can’t. Quickly and easily letting drivers know if they can help.

FuelService helps overcome some of these challenges for disabled drivers and allows us to provide a seamless experience for all of our customers.

As an Irish company, Applegreen is an active supporter of Irish biodiversity and climate targets. We are now one of the largest contributors to the Irish Government’s Woodland Environmental Fund (WEF) and are committed to planting 300,000 native Irish trees by the end of 2023.

We have overseen the planting of our first 100,000 native Irish trees at sites in Leitrim, Clare and Westmeath in 2021, and are proud to contribute to Ireland’s forestry goals.

Applegreen Charitable Fund

The Applegreen Charitable Fund was set up in December 2009 with the aim to give back to the communities in which we operate throughout Ireland. The Fund has supported a number of charity partners, many with children at the core, and with the aim of delivering tangible and visible benefits to the communities that both Applegreen and our charity partners are serving every day.

Throughout the year employees from head office and stores across Ireland arrange events to raise awareness and drive fund raising for our charity partners.

The You Buy, We Give initiative continues to grow each year. Every time a customer makes a shop and fuel, or a shop only purchase in an Applegreen store in Ireland, the company donates 1c/1p to the Applegreen Charitable Fund at no additional cost to the customer. Funds are also donated through coin collection boxes placed in all Applegreen Service Stations, and Barcode Campaigns whereby the customer is given the option to donate €1/£1 in store once every quarter.

Our current Charity Partners

We have had the privilege of partnering and working with some incredible charities over the past 13 years. Our current charity partners are:

Irish Youth Foundation where we are helping their incredible work supporting children and young people living in disadvantaged circumstances across the country.  One of the most pressing issues that Irish children face today is their well-being. The Applegreen Blossom Fund was created to help projects and programmes teach and encourage positive habits for children when thinking about their health.

We are expanding this fund further in 2021 and looking towards education. IYF recently shared with us that 1 in every 10 12-year-old children do not transition from primary to secondary education in Ireland. This is a truly shocking statistic and one which our fund can help change, by supporting them in developing and deploying programmes which enable children to make this transition.

Pieta House who undertake vital work in providing counselling support for those in suicidal crisis, engaging in self-harm, and those bereaved by suicide. They have unfortunately seen unprecedented increase in demand for their services in the past year as a result of the pandemic and our support is helping to ensure their services remain fully available to those in need who are facing their darkest of days.

FoodCloud who are a charity that connects retailers and food businesses, who from time to time find themselves with surplus food, with charities and communities all over Ireland.
We have supported FoodCloud with the funding of three distribution vehicles to help ensure food arrives fresh and safely to their charity partners.

Enable Ireland who every year, provide services to over 9,000 children and adults with physical, sensory, and intellectual disabilities across the country. Our funding supports
one of the vital services they provide which is Respite Care for children and their families.
For children with disabilities, these breaks away from home are often their first taste of independence.
